2023 BVCS Lottery Tickets for Sale

October 3rd, 2022

This is our seventh year of selling lottery calendars. It is our biggest and best opportunity to raise funds to support the Boston Young Guns and our property and building maintenance.

If all 1,000 tickets are sold our club will make $9,800.00 of income. That is if we write a check every day.

Calendars cost $20.00 each and follow the 3-digit PA Evening number.

If your number matches:

Mon-Sat it is a $20.00 win
Sunday receives a $50.00
18 listed Holidays $100.00

There are no limits to the times you can win, we pay every time your numbers come up.

We also have seller prizes:

Top seller receives $100 or five calendars
2nd place seller receives four calendars
3rd place receives three calendars

But wait, there’s more!

Customers buying calendars before our November meeting are eligible for a $100.00 prize.

Tickets are at our club in the box on the table for all members to get. If you are unable to get to the club, we could mail your calendar(s) directly to you.

This is a great for Christmas present for the person who has everything. Keep the calendar on your fridge and you have a chance to win money 365 days for 2023.

If you would like to have your calendars mailed to you can contact Dave Karb at 716-796-8034.

In the past our top sellers have been non-members. This is your club and a way to help support it. Please make it a priority to get some calendars.

Sincerely,
Your Lottery Committee

Trap

Cost of shooting & I would suppose all of the great weather we've had has put a damper on the trap program. 34 shooters have signed up for the Fall League. A drop of approximately 10 shooters from the Spring League.

Still time to come out & try your luck at breaking targets. We're at the Club Sundays: 9am - noon & Thursdays: 6pm - 8pm.

After the Fall League Trap Party in late October, the trap program will shut down until Late March of 2023.

As always, thanks to the terrific volunteers & the BVCS Board for their support.

Note on Smith & Wesson

The House Oversight and Reform Committee under Chairwoman Carolyn Maloney (a New York City Democrat) recently sent a subpoena to Smith & Wesson. It’s well worth reading S&W’s response.

A number of politicians and their lobbying partners in the media have recently sought to disparage Smith & Wesson. Some have had the audacity to suggest that after they have vilified, undermined and defunded law enforcement for years, supported prosecutors who refuse to hold criminals accountable for their actions, overseen the decay of our country’s mental health infrastructure, and generally promoted a culture of lawlessness, Smith & Wesson and other firearm manufacturers are somehow responsible for the crime wave that has predictably resulted from these destructive policies. But they are the ones to blame for the surge in violence and lawlessness, and they seek to avoid any responsibility for the crisis of violence they have created by attempting to shift the blame to Smith & Wesson, other firearm manufacturers and law-abiding gun owners.

It is no surprise that the cities suffering most from violent crime are the very same cities that have promoted irresponsible, soft-on-crime policies that often treat criminals as victims and victims as criminals. Many of these same cities also maintain the strictest gun laws in the nation. But rather than confront the failure of their policies, certain politicians have sought more laws restricting the 2nd Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens, while simultaneously continuing to undermine our institutions of law and order. And to suppress the truth, some now seek to prohibit firearm manufacturers and supporters of the 2nd Amendment from advertising products in a manner designed to remind law-abiding citizens that they have a Constitutional right to bear arms in defense of themselves and their families.

To be clear, a Smith & Wesson firearm has never broken into a home; a Smith & Wesson firearm has never assaulted a woman out for a late-night run in the city; a Smith & Wesson firearm has never carjacked an unsuspecting driver stopped at a traffic light. Instead, Smith & Wesson provides these citizens with the means to protect themselves and their families.

We are proud of our 170-year history. We are proud of the commitment of our employees to making a quality product. We are proud to provide law-abiding citizens and law enforcement - our customers - with the tools to provide for their security and independence. We are proud of our responsible business practices.

We will continue to work alongside law enforcement, community leaders and lawmakers who are genuinely interested in creating safe neighborhoods. We will engage those who genuinely seek productive discussions, not a means of scoring political points. We will continue informing law-abiding citizens that they have a Constitutionally-protected right to defend themselves and their families. We will never back down in our defense of the 2nd Amendment.

Mark Smith, President & CEO, Smith & Wesson Brands, Inc.

Mark Paoletta, a lawyer representing Smith & Wesson also responded in a much longer letter. Some highlights worth noting:

The firearms company cannot track deaths or injuries, crimes attempted or carried out with semiautomatic rifles.

"…Congress recently proved that it does not need such very specific information about exact units sold and revenue to do its job...On July 29, 2022, the U.S. House of Representatives (the House) passed a ban on what you erroneously call 'assault weapons.' This only confirms my prior argument that the Committee does not need 'every scrap of potentially relevant' information to legislate."

The Supreme Court has said, "Investigations conducted solely for the personal aggrandizement of the investigators or to 'punish' those investigated are indefensible."

"There is no basis in Heller for drawing a constitutional distinction between semi-automatic handguns and semiautomatic rifles."

In another case the Supreme Court said, "The Court…is unaware of historical precedent that would permit a governmental entity to entirely ban a type of weapon that is commonly used by law-abiding citizens for lawful purposes, whether in an individual’s home or in public."

Unfortunately, the Swamp does not believe Supreme Court decision apply to them.

Given the Swamp's recent attempts to intimidate Donald Trump and anyone who associates with him or votes for him, it’s nice to see someone standing up to the bullies in Washington.

Trap

As this is being written April 5th, I really do not have much info on the BVCS Spring Trap league. We started out March 27th with 6 in. of snow on the ground when we arrived to start the league. After moving targets to the trap houses through the snow, it continued snowing until we called it quits just after 11 am with no shooters. The following Thursday, March 31st, the wind blew 30 mph & once again, no shooters, but the coffee was hot & cookies were fresh. Sunday April 3rd, though still snowing, we managed to get 6 squads of shooters into the books. Hopefully Spring will finally get here to get truly started after April 7th the next shooting night.

There have been promises of teams & individuals wanting to shoot. Time & weather will tell. Ammunition is still in short supply & if found fairly expensive. We have very little to sell at the club. Still, plenty of time to come out to enjoy our shooting sport. As always new shooters are welcome & instruction can be had.

Thanks to the faithful volunteers at our club & the support of the Board.
